Γεια σας, παρακαλώ και σας ευχαριστώ

Or, Geia sas , parakaló̱ kai sas ef̱charistó̱, Hello, Please and Thank you, the current extent of our Grecian vocabulary. But so far it has been enough to get us around on the island of Naxos. Jon and I feel very lucky that English is the accepted language of traveling. Even though English is spoken by many Grecians, the majority of people vacationing here on Naxos do not seem to be native English speakers. And our suspicions were confirmed tonight by a waiter that told us that Swedes and Norwegians vacation on Naxos, Americans and Japanese on Santorini and Germans on Paros and Corfu. Obviously it's a huge generalization, but still it makes Naxos feel like an even more foreign land.

Today we enjoyed the pleasure of the beach at Agia Anna (Saint Anna), literally one block from our beautiful little white and blue hotel. It was the perfect way to slow things down and soak up the sweet sunshine of the Cyclades.

This evening we took the bus into Naxos Town, visited the ancient temple of Apollo from 500 BC, and had the most delicious meal thus far. We could seriously eat our way through this country, everything is so tasty!
